Maternal and Child HealthThe health of mothers, infants, and children is a reflection of the current health status of Hawai‘i’s population, and a predictor of the next generation’s health. In Hawaii, statewide programs have been made available to help reduce health inequality for women and children. For instance, adults’ receiving flu shots increased by 10% between 2004 and 2006.¹ In 2007, the Department of Health began the Protect Hawai‘i’s Keiki: Stop Flu At School, a school-based vaccination program effort to stop the spread of harmful influenza viruses. Key indicators of maternal and child health are available in this section. ¹ Had a flu shot in the past 12 Months (2008, March).
