EthnicityThe reports in this section are organized by race/ethnicity. This is an important variable for consideration due both to genetic factors and to the influence of environmental characteristics. Examining Hawaii health data by race/ethnicity is especially important due to the racially diverse population of the state. Hawaii is one of only four states in which non-Hispanic whites do not comprise the majority of the population. In this first series of reports, the leading health indicators set forth by Healthy People 2010 are examined. The race/ethnicity categories include Native Hawaiian/part-Hawaiian, Caucasian, Filipino, and Japanese, and the values presented include the percent prevalence with 95% confidence intervals and the estimated population at risk for each health behavior. Where possible, 3- and 5-year aggregate data is provided to decrease the confidence intervals and make it easier to spot patterns. Indicators are shown by race/ethnicity and a second variable, including county, gender, age, education level, employment status, marital status, poverty level, and healthcare coverage. Multiple data sources were used to create these reports. The first page of each report identifies the data sources. For details on race/ethnicity variables in each of the data sources and their use by HHDW, please see the Race-Ethnicity Documentation Report.
